"The world tried to catch me but failed" - the words that Hryhorii Skovoroda bequeathed to write on his grave and which reflect his desire for freedom of thought, freedom of creativity, and freedom from a stereotyped life. Hryhorii Skovoroda (1722-1794) - an outstanding Ukrainian philosopher-mystic, theologian, poet, polyglot, and teacher, made a significant contribution to East Slavic culture. Some call Hryhorii Skovoroda the first hippie in the world. Indeed, his worldview, philosophy of happiness, and philosophy of the heart were related to the views of the first hippies of the 60s in the USA.
