Artist's Description
Freedom Square in Kharkiv has an area approximately equal to 12 hectares (30 acres) and is the 8th largest city-centre square in Europe. During the Soviet era, this square was named after Dzerzhinsky and was renamed after Ukraine gained independence in 1991. On the left side of the panorama, you can see the Derzhprom (or Gosprom) building, an outstanding example of constructivist architecture. The monumental statue of Lenin is currently dismantled as part of the decommunization program in Ukraine. Further, you can see the former building of the Govorov Military Academy, currently transferred to the Karazin Kharkiv University. In the center of the panorama, there is a complex of buildings of the Hotel Kharkiv. And on the right side, you can see the building of the Kharkiv regional state administration.
