Artist's Description
Heracleum Sosnowskyi inflorescences on the background of the sky. Heracleum sosnowskyi, or Sosnowsky's hogweed, was brought from the central and eastern Caucasus regions of Eurasia in the 1950s to be used in animal feed production and now is a common weed in the Baltic States, Belarus, Russia, Ukraine, and Poland. A beautiful but dangerous herb is hazardous in direct contact with human skin. It results from the content of photoallergic substances called furanocoumarins in its essential oil.
